The South African Embassy in Vietnam hosted a reception on April 28 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of South Africa’s Freedom Day, which falls on April 27 and 15 years of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Speaking at the event, the South African Ambassador to Vietnam, Ratubatsi Super Moloi, said that this was an important time for both South African and Vietnamese relations as both countries are commemorating their 15th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Despite the geographic distance, both Vietnam and South African have experienced a similar struggle for national independence, the diplomat noted.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat, stressed that as a close friend of the South African people, the Vietnamese people have been pleased to see South Africans, under the judicious leadership of the African National Congress (ANC), successfully implement a policy of national reconciliation, development and regional and international integration.

Over the past 15 years, Vietnam and South Africa have formed a strong political relationship, Mr. Phat said, adding that the two nations need to strengthen their friendly and cooperative ties to overcome new challenges that arise in the process of national development.

On this occasion, the embassy held an exhibition of 30 photographs highlighting the growing friendship between Vietnam and South Africa which will be the next host of the 2010 World Cup.
