South African President arrives in Hanoi for state visit to Vietnam
VOV.VN - South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Hanoi on the afternoon of October 23, beginning a state visit to Vietnam from October 23 to 24, at the invitation of Vietnamese President Luong Cuong.

Those welcoming the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport included Tran Sy Thanh, member of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee; Nguyen Hai Ninh, member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Justice; Nguyen Hoang Anh, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office; Le Anh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Hoang Sy Cuong, Vietnamese Ambassador to South Africa.
Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa was elected Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC) in 1991 and became Deputy President of the party in December 2012. From 2014 to 2018, he served as Deputy President of South Africa and as Special Envoy of former President Jacob Zuma to South Sudan to help resolve the conflict there.
He has held the position of ANC President since December 2017 and has served as President of South Africa since February 2018, winning re-election in June 2024.
President Cyril Ramaphosa’s state visit to Vietnam is expected to help upgrade bilateral relations to a higher level, promote trade, and expand cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, defence, technology, and others.
During the visit, President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to hold talks with President Luong Cuong and meet with other senior Vietnamese leaders. He will also attend a signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes, also known as the Hanoi Convention.
