Slovakia affirms Vietnam as key partner in Asia amid growing cooperation
VOV.VN - Slovakia regards Vietnam as a key partner in Asia, Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár told Vietnamese Ambassador to Slovakia Pham Truong Giang during their meeting on May 13.

Ambassador Giang reaffirmed Vietnam’s strong commitment to the traditional friendship and all-around cooperation with Slovakia.
He expressed confidence in the great potential for further development in bilateral relations in the near future.
The ambassador welcomed Slovakia’s official recognition of the Vietnamese community as the country’s 14th ethnic minority in 2023. This community primarily consists of former students, interns, researchers, and workers who came during the era of former Czechoslovakia, part of which is now Slovakia.
He hoped Slovakia will continue to provide favorable conditions for the community’s integration and stable development, enabling them to contribute positively to Slovakia’s socio-economic progress while serving as a lasting bridge to strengthen the friendship between the two nations.
Minister Blanár praised Vietnam’s impressive socio-economic achievements, its pivotal role in ASEAN, and its rising international standing.
He noted the promising prospects for expanding cooperation in a multitude of fields such as economics, tourism, nuclear energy, and defence industry.
The minister expressed hope that Vietnam will consider upgrading bilateral ties to a strategic partnership and implementing visa exemptions for Slovak citizens.
He also proposed that the two countries resume meetings of the intergovernmental committee soon to effectively tap into their cooperation potential.
Both sides consented to continue coordinating practical commemorative activities in 2025, intensify high-level delegation exchanges to deepen political trust, expand and accelerate the signing of cooperation agreements in mutually beneficial areas, and explore ways to simplify document legalization procedures and visa exemptions.
On this occasion, Blanár thanked Vietnam for supporting Slovakia’s candidacy for the United Nations Security Council. He also expressed his wish for mutual backing of each other’s candidates in other important international bodies, including the Human Rights Council, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Board of Directors.
