12 years after implementing the government’s national programme on crime prevention and control, good results have been achieved. The number of crimes reported in 2009 was 20 percent less than the number reported in 1998. In 2003 alone, the figure fell 9 percent and by more than 50 percent in HCM City, Binh Duong, and Ca Mau.
With globalization, international economic integration, and the growth of Vietnam’s new market economy, however, new kinds of crimes have appeared, such as terrorism, money laundering, drug and human trafficking and high tech hacking.
Seminar attendees underlined the need to help the Party make new crucial decisions and drastic changes in the fight against crime.
Former Deputy Minister of Public Security Tran Dong said to enhance the Party’s leadership in crime prevention and control, it is essential to bring into full play the great strength of the political system and launch public movements.
