Scientific projects honoured with HCM and State awards

These outstanding scientific and technological projects are the intellectual contributions from talented scientists to the country’s socio-economic development, national construction and defence, said State President Truong Tan Sang.

The Council of State Awards and the Ministry of Science and Technology held a ceremony in Hanoi on February 18 to present the 2010 Ho Chi Minh Awards and State Awards for Science and Technology.

Attending the ceremony were State President Truong Tan Sang; Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and Head of the CPV’s Popularization and Education Commission Dinh The Huynh; Vice National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan; and representatives from central ministries and sectors, along with 500 delegates.

In his speech, Chairman of the Council of State Awards and Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan said the HCM Awards and State Awards for Science and Technology, which are handed out every five years, are the highest distinctions in the field of science and technology.

The awards aim to honour outstanding scientific and technological projects of significant value to society. Thirty two projects received Ho Chi Minh and State prizes. The projects cover various fields including natural and social sciences, the humanities, science and technology, agriculture, medicine and pharmacology.

Addressing the awards ceremony, President Sang praised the great contributions Vietnamese scientists have made to the cause of national construction and defence, saying that the honorable Party and State awards are in recognition of their silent contributions to the country.

He also said he believes that scientists, especially the younger generation, will continue making ever greater contributions to the process of national industrialization and modernization, helping Vietnam keep up with other countries in the world.
