Scholarly works highlight Vietnam-Laos special relations
Scholarly works on Vietnam-Laos and Laos-Vietnam special relations in the 1930-2007 period have been published, according to a press briefing in Vientiane on June 7.
It took place after a conference was held on June 6-7 to review the great efforts of Party leaders, officials and members from both countries involved in the project to compile scholarly works.
A Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV) reporter interviewed Pham Van Linh, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education about the significance of the project.

Reporter: After four years, the scholarly works about the history of Vietnam-Laos relations have been completed and published. What is the significance and real value of such works?
Mr Linh: These works are of political, scientific and educational significance as they greatly contribute to tightening Vietnam-Laos relations.
They focus on Vietnam-Lao special relations starting very early from 1930 through different periods of history as recorded in Party and State documents, chronicles of events, memoirs and pictures.
Reporter: What are disadvantages and advantages in compiling these works?
Mr Linh: Notable among the advantages is a high consensus reached by the two parties’ politburo members, coupled with the support of scientists, historical witnesses and people from both countries.
In addition, we have a good archive system that makes it easier for scientists to do research and sort out original documents.
However, at some point, we did run into difficulty as many historical witnesses were no longer alive.
Reporter: What do Party and State leaders and scientists think about the project?
Mr Linh: The scientific project has been highly appreciated by Party and State leaders and scientists from both countries in terms of theoretical value and practical significance.
The project was thoroughly prepared, successfully completed and fully supported by scientists.
Reporter: What should we do to bring the value of the project to life?
Mr Linh: Immediately after the project was completed, the Politburo and Secretariat of the two parties have planned on disseminating these works throughout the media to Lao and Vietnamese people so that they will fully understand the virtues of special relationship between the two countries.
These works have been published in three languages, including Vietnamese, Lao and English and free copies of around 200 pages in the form of a small book will be sent out to Party members and people of the two countries for reference and study.
Reporter: Thank you very much.
