The Republic of Korea (RoK)’s Prime Minister Han Seung-soo on March 23 received a high-level delegation from Hanoi to discuss the economic climate in both countries as well as ways of boosting RoK-Vietnam relations.

Mr Han told Pham Quang Nghi, head of the delegation, that Vietnam will succeed in its industrialization and modernization process due to its sound leadership and strong determination.

He affirmed the RoK’s wish to develop bilateral ties of cooperation and friendship, which were first established nearly two decades ago. He also wants a better relationship between the two capital cities of Seoul and Hanoi for the sake of peace, stability and development in the region.

PM Han said that his country is preparing to receive Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung, who will officially visit the RoK and attend the ASEAN+3 Summit on Jeju Island in early June this year.

Meanwhile, Mr Nghi, who is Hanoi’s Party Secretary, emphasized that the RoK is one of Vietnam’s leading economic, trade and investment partners and the Vietnamese Government has a clear-cut policy of constantly strengthening Vietnam-RoK relations.

While meeting with the Mayor of Seoul Oh Sei-hoon previously, Mr Nghi highlighted the assistance that Seoul has given to Hanoi in the project to develop the two banks of the Red River, which was first initiated by President Lee Myung-bak when he was Mayor of Seoul.

During the meeting, Mr Nghi also talked about the plans to hold the grand anniversary marking 1000 years of Thang Long-Hanoi in October 2010 and invited the Seoul authorities to attend the event.
