The establishment of Tuyen Quang city was announced in Tuyen Quang province on August 15. The city has an area of nearly 120 km2 and will include 13 administrative units.

A ceremony to announce the resolution to establish Tuyen Quang city was attended by member of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation, Ha Thi Khiet, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, leaders from various ministries and sectors, revolutionary veterans and heroic mothers.

The event celebrated the 65th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

Over the past 65 years, Tuyen Quang has spared no effort to develop its township into a political, economic, socio-cultural centre in the province. Tuyen Quang city is based on Tuyen Quang township with a population of 110,000 (a density of 8,000 people/km2) and the number of non-agricultural workers is 84 percent.

The province’s annual average economic growth rate is more than 15 percent and its revenue contribution to the State budget is an average year-on-year increase of more than 20 percent.

Along with economic development, the standard of living for local people has improved significantly while remarkable progress has also been made in education, training and healthcare.
