Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh has discussed with the visiting leader of the Japanese Communist Party (JCP) ways to promote bilateral relations between the two parties.

In his meeting with JCP leader Kazuo Shii and his delegation in Hanoi on January 10, General Secretary Manh called for developing co-operation between the two parties, nations and peoples in the future for mutual benefit.

The party chief expressed his appreciation for the friendship and support extended by the JCP and the Japanese people to the Vietnamese people during their fight for national liberation and for national reconstruction.

For his part, Mr Shii said he believes that under the leadership of the CPV, the Vietnamese people will record more success in national defence and construction with the aim of building a socialist, industrialised, modern, prosperous and strong country, and an equal, democratic and civilised society.

He thanked the CPV and the Vietnamese people for supporting his party's efforts, and called for promoting friendship and co-operation between the two parties and peoples in the coming time.

Earlier, the CPV's related agencies briefed the Japanese delegation on the current socio-economic development, foreign policies and principles related to the market economy in Vietnam.

The Japanese delegation is expected to meet Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on January 11 and visit certain information technology enterprises.

Mr Shii is the second JCP leader to make an official visit to Vietnam. His predecessor, Tetsuzo Fuwa, visited the country in September 1999.
