Addressing the opening ceremony, Mr Binh stated that corruption is a serious crime which has become a burning issue in many nations in the world. Many governments, including some in the Southeast Asia have listed it as a top priority in their agendas. Binh added that Vietnam has built and issued a national strategy on combating and preventing corruption through 2010 and passed the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
The fifth meeting of the Southeast Asian Parliamentarians Against Corruption (SEA-PAC 5) held in Hanoi in 2009 discussed issues relating to the problem along with other issues of mutual concern. Following the SEA-PAC5, the sixth meeting to be held in Cambodia in November this year will offer an opportunity for members of SEA PAC to debate issues which remain open from the previous session.
