Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will spend two and a half hours talking online with the public on February 9. It will be the first time a Vietnamese Prime Minister will be involved in an online exchange with the public.

Editor-in-chief of the online newspaper of the Vietnam Communist Party, Dao Duy Quat said the Prime Minister will address a wide range of issues.

The Party’s paper is working with the Government website, Vietnam Television and online newspaper VietnamNet to hold the discussion, titled “For a socialist Vietnam, a rich people, a strong country, a just, democratic and civilized society, successful integration, sustainable development”.

Mr Quat, who is also deputy director of the Party Central Committee for Culture and Ideology, said the online exchange is a new forum of communication to keep the Prime Minister updated with the public concerns and opinions.

He said that the Prime Minister will answer all questions raised, including some that cannot receive direct answers due to time limits. Those outstanding questions will be addressed in other forms after the forum. He added that following the online exchange with the Prime Minister, other members of the government will take turns taking part in similar online exchanges.

Pham Viet Dung, editor-in-chief of the Government’s website, said the online discussion should become a regular activity for Government leaders.

The organizers have listed nine topics that people can focus on, including assessment of the country’s socio-economic development in 2006, solutions for ensuring the country’s fast and sustainable socio-economic development in the future and causes of corruption and wastefulness.

Other topics that may receive queries include the government’s policies on housing and land issues, administrative reform and development of education, culture and health. Questions relating to employment, social policies, the development of science and technology and prevention of natural disasters and epidemics are also encouraged.

Questions can be sent before or during the Prime Minister’s discussion by accessing websites at:
