Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) should strive to become a strong national radio station in the region and the world, providing up-to-date information for domestic people and international friends, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on March 6 paid a working visit to VOV where he heard VOV General Director Vu Van Hien’s report on the implementation of tasks in 2006 and plan to fulfill new tasks for 2007.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr Dung asked VOV to pay more attention to expanding the coverage area and increasing the quality of broadcasts. From now till 2010, VOV will have to ensure that the whole population can listen to its broadcasts, at least on one of its channels in the 2007-2008 period, he said.

The Government leader expressed his appreciation for VOV’s time-honoured tradition  and its tremendous achievements in recent years. As VOV is the voice of the nation, Party and State, it should give due attention to strengthening personnel training and increasing the quality of broadcasts so as to better serve domestic and foreign listeners, Mr Dung said.

On this occasion, Mr Dung also visited a number of VOV technical and editorial departments including VOV online newspaper (VOVNews).
