Prime Minister arrives in Netherlands

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived in the Dutch capital city of Amsterdam on September 27 to begin an official five-day visit to the country.

On the same day, PM Dung visited the International Court of Justice, the Permanent Court of Arbitration and the Vietnamese Embassy in the Netherlands and also met with representatives of the Overseas Vietnamese community in the country.

During his talks with Hisashi Owada, President of the International Court of Justice and Christian Kroner, Secretary General of the Permanent Court of Arbitration, PM highly appreciated the role of the two organisations in settling international disputes, and contributing to maintaining peace and security in the world.

Vietnam supports the peaceful settlement of international disputes in accordance to international law, Mr. Dung said.

The Vietnamese government leader also expressed hope that the International Court of Justice and the Permanent Court of Arbitration will support Vietnam in exchanging information, sharing experience, boosting cooperation, and improving Vietnamese cadres’ capacity.

While working with the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese community in the Netherlands, PM Dung said he was delighted at the development of comprehensive cooperation in all fields.

PM Dung highlighted the great contributions made by officials of the Vietnamese Embassy and overseas Vietnamese in the Netherlands to developing bilateral cooperation between the two countries. He urged the embassy staff to continue implementing the Party’s foreign policy and help promote comprehensive cooperation with the Netherlands for mutual benefits.

The PM expressed hope for early establishment of a Vietnamese Association in the Netherlands to help promote cultural, trade and investment cooperation between the countries.

The Party and State always consider overseas Vietnamese an indispensable part of the country, Mr. Dung said, asking the embassy to create favourable conditions for them and protect their legitimate rights in the country.

The Netherlands is now the biggest European investor in Vietnam with 153 projects worth US$5.6 billion. It is also Vietnam’s second biggest trade partner with two-way trade reaching almost US$2 billion in 2010 and more than US$900 million in the first six months of 2011.
