Accompanied by the provincial leadership, he discussed with the terminal’s management board the difficulties that it was facing and pledged to have concerned agencies help resolve them.
He encouraged terminal managers and staff to make a greater effort to cushion the impact of the economic slowdown and contribute to the growth of logistics in the country.
During the visit, President Sang observed the loading of agricultural, seafood and textile containers on the 67,637 DWT OOCL Hong Kong, a vessel operating on a direct route to the US.
The terminal, located in the province’s Tan Thanh District, about 80km away from HCM City, has a capacity of 1.1 billion TEUs (20-foot equivalent units), a 600m-long wharf and 14m-deep channel. It can accommodate vessels of up to 160,000DWT.
Since its operation in March 2011, the terminal has served 151 vessels and handled 351,000 TEUs.
