State leader urges sharp foresight to safeguard national security
VOV.VN - President Luong Cuong underlined the need for accurate forecasts and timely policy advice to ensure Vietnam stays prepared and avoids passivity at the sixth session of the National Defence and Security Council for the 2021–2026 term, held in Hanoi on June 2.

The meeting reviewed and discussed key global, regional and domestic developments affecting Vietnam’s national defence, security and foreign affairs; assessed the implementation of several recent defence and security tasks; and proposed agenda items for the Council’s next session.
On behalf of the Council, President Luong Cuong acknowledged and appreciated the thorough preparation for the session and the important, strategic contributions made by Council members.
Drawing on these discussions, the Council reached a consensus on recommendations to the Politburo and other competent agencies regarding policies and mechanisms to strengthen national defence, security, and diplomacy.
Amid continued complex and unpredictable developments globally and in the region, the State leader urged relevant agencies and forces to build on past results and effectively carry out the directives and policies of the Politburo, the Party Central Secretariat, the National Assembly, and the Government, as well as guidance from Party General Secretary To Lam on defence, security and foreign relations.
He called for a focus on effectively implementing Resolution No. 8 of the 13th Party Central Committee on the strategy for national defence in the new situation, to firmly safeguard national independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, ensure national security, maintain social order and safety, and promote comprehensive, deep and effective international integration.
Other key tasks include restructuring and streamlining the armed forces to meet current requirements, and accelerating the implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, thus laying the foundation for Vietnam to enter a new era of prosperity and strength.
President Luong Cuong underscored the importance of closely monitoring, proactively assessing and accurately forecasting global, regional and domestic developments, especially those with strategic implications for national defence, security and foreign policy. Timely and effective policy advice must be provided to the Party and State to ensure preparedness and avoid any surprises in all situations.
