State President Nguyen Minh Triet and his top-level delegation left Santiago on October 2, successfully concluding his official visit to Chile.
Earlier on the afternoon of October 1, the Vietnamese State President met with acting president of the Chilean Senate, Carlos Bianchi and the president of the Chilean House of Representatives, Rodrigo Alvarez Zenteno.
During these meetings, President Triet stressed that Vietnam highly values Chile’s role and position in the region and the world and attaches great importance to strengthening friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Latin American countries, including Chile.
The Vietnamese State leader stated that his visit to Chile was to develop bilateral relations in a more practical and effective manner.

The Chilean officials thanked Mr Triet for visiting Chile, saying that it will help to promote mutual understanding between the two countries’ people and stimulate bilateral relations.
Speaking at the Vietnam-Chile Business Forum on the morning of the same day, President Triet emphasised that despite the huge geographical distance, Vietnam and Chile have promoted solidarity and supported each other in their past struggles for the national liberation of each country. In the past, Chile supported Vietnam in joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and was one of the first countries to recognise Vietnam as a market economy, he added.
Recently, the two countries have been negotiating a Free Trade Area (FTA) agreement that will be a turning point in the two countries’ economic and trade relationship.
Mr Triet called on the Chilean business community to invest more in Vietnam, which is considered an attractive investment destination for foreign investors.
He also proposed that Vietnamese businesses enter the Chilean market as Chile has emerged as a powerful economy in the Latin American region.
At the forum, President Triet witnessed the signing of the cooperation document between the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Federation of Chilean Industry.
