The Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC) is willing to give more support to Vietnam in implementing its infrastructure projects, as well as its commitments to the WTO.

APCAC President Landis Hicks made the statement at a reception given by State President Nguyen Minh Triet in Hanoi on March 21. Mr Hicks and his delegation were in the capital to attend the 40th annual APCAC meeting held by the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Vietnam.

At the reception, State President Nguyen Minh Triet stressed that following its outstanding achievements in 2006, including its successful organisation of the 14th APEC meeting and its accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Vietnam has tried its best to improve the investment environment, speed up administrative reform and streamline legal documents to attract more foreign investors.

President Triet expressed hope that AmCham Vietnam’s hosting the APCAC annual meeting will help to affirm Vietnam’s prestige in the international arena.

APCAC’s President Landis Hicks and members highly valued Vietnam’s achievements in 2006 and believed that they will be premises for Vietnam’s sustainable development in the coming period. President Hicks affirmed APCAC’s willing to support Vietnam in implementing its infrastructure projects, as well as its commitments to the WTO.

APCAC comprises 25 AmCham members in 19 countries and economies, representing the interests of more than 50,000 business leaders and over 10,000 US firms in the Asia-Pacific region. APCAC members currently manage trade turnover of over US$400 billion and the foreign direct investment of nearly US$300 billion.
