State President Nguyen Minh Triet has described cooperation between Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Kyodo News as an important channel to reflect the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan.

The State leader also sought the Japanese newswire’s further assistance in the training of reporters, subeditors and technicians for VNA while receiving the visiting Kyodo President, Satoshi Ishikawa, on November 24.

“Relations between VNA and Kyodo have helped strengthen mutual understanding between people of the two countries. The two news agencies should speed up the exchange of information and personnel training,” Mr Triet said.

He called for Kyodo’s coordinated effort in promoting Vietnam’s potential and strengths, especially in the areas of investment climate, tourism destinations and culture.
The State President took this opportunity to express thanks to Japan for its great assistance to Vietnam as shown in providing huge amounts of ODA.

“The funding (of ODA from Japan) has been used effectively, contributing considerably to socio-economic development and poverty reduction in Vietnam,” Mr Triet said.

In reply, Kyodo President Satoshi Ishikawa shared the Vietnamese State President’s view on the role of the two news agencies. He said they should increase public understanding of friendly relationship in multifaceted cooperation, especially in the socio-economic, investment and cultural areas for the benefit of the two countries’ strategic partnership.

“The Japanese people have closely followed the achievements made by Vietnam in its renewal cause while always wishing for closer friendship and stronger cooperation between the two countries,” said the Kyodo News chief.
