Vietnam wishes to boost comprehensive cooperation with Russia, especially in education and training, said State President Nguyen Minh Triet in Hanoi on October 29.

While receiving Prof. Fedorov Mikhail Petrovich, rector of the Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnic University who is in Vietnam to seek ways to open a branch of his university, President Triet said that this is a good sign for future cooperation in education and training between the two countries.

The President said the Vietnamese State’s conferment of the Friendship Order and the For the Cause of Education insignia on the professor expressed the gratefulness of Vietnam’s State and people to his contributions to the development of bilateral cooperation in education and training.

The Vietnamese people will always remember and be thankful to the people of the former Soviet Union and the current state of Russia for their assistance in training a contingent of officers who are actively engaged in the process of national construction and development.

Prof. Petrovich said it was an honour for him to receive the esteemed prize, expressing his hope to soon open his university’s branch in Vietnam.

He said that the Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnic University has so far trained a large number of Vietnamese students and that a boost in cooperation on education through student exchanges between the two countries will add impetus to strengthening the traditional friendship.

Prof. Petrovich also spoke highly of the cooperation between his university and Vietnam’s Binh Duong University.
