President Sang attends Russia's victory parade

(VOV) -State President Truong Tan Sang joined leaders of various countries and international organisations in the largest victory parade in Russia 's history on May 9 at Red Square , Moscow to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, 30 foreign leaders, and heads of international organizations witnessed the parade under the command of General Oleg Salyukov, Commander-in-chief of Russia’s armed forces.

Joining in the parade were about 160,000 soldiers, 143 aircraft, and hundreds of weapons including Russia’s most advanced military equipment. The parade also saw troops from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazkhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, India, Mongolia, China, and Serbia.

Speaking at the parade, President Putin said decisive battles of the war took place at the Red Square, “We can never forget what led to this bloody war, which made 80% of the world’s population suffer.

The Soviet Union suffered huge losses caused by enemy attacks. It was here that powerful forces and weapons were gathered and this place played a decisive role in the victory of World War II.

The Soviet Union army advanced to Berlin and put an end to fascism. People in many countries suffered heavy losses caused by the war but together made this immortal triumph, which ended World War II and liberated European nations from the shackle of fascism.”

President Putin said the victory over fascism in 1945 was the peak of heroism in Russia’s history. On this occasion, he thanked allied forces in the war against fascism such as Britain, France, and the US.
