State President Nguyen Minh Triet has praised the important contributions made by the Vietnam Diplomatic Academy in training diplomats to serve the struggle for national independence, and the cause of national construction and development.

During the doi moi (renovation) process and the international integration period, the diplomatic and foreign affairs sector played an important role in implementing Party and State foreign policies, Mr Triet said at a meeting with senior leaders, officials, teachers and students from the academy on the occasion of its 50th anniversary in Hanoi on June 17.

The president asked the diplomatic sector not only to help promote cooperation but also to struggle for equality in the fields of politics, economics and culture as well as foreign affairs.

He reminded the sector about the need to pay attention to the fight for democracy and human rights.

Mr Triet urged the diplomatic sector to help strengthen friendship and cooperation with countries and organizations throughout the world and give timely advice to the Party and State regarding foreign policies.

On this occasion, Mr Triet presented the Ho Chi Minh Order to the academy in recognition of its great contribution to the country.
