President Phuc receives Azerbaijani and Brunei ambassadors

VOV.VN - President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received the Ambassadors of Azerbaijan and Brunei on December 1 at the Presidential Palace, with both diplomats coming to present their letters of credence.

Upon congratulating Azerbaijani Ambassador to Vietnam Shovgi Kamal Oglu Mehdizade on his appointment to the post on the occasion of the two countries' 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, President Phuc affirmed that the country continues to attach importance to the traditional ties of friendship and multifaceted co-operation with Azerbaijan. Indeed, these have been nurtured and built up by generations of leaders and people of the two nations.

Furthermore, Vietnam also wishes to augment multifaceted and substantive ties with Azerbaijan, commensurate the strong traditional friendship, as well as fulfilling both nations’ great potential.

Emphasizing the importance of trading ties, the Vietnamese State leader stated that mutual economic and trade co-operation has made positive progress, although is still far from matching the potential.

Therefore, the two sides must make greater efforts in order to bolster linages in key areas, such as the Vietnamese side being keen to export electronic products, components, pepper to Azerbaijan, whilst importing crude oil.

It can be viewed as essential to expand bilateral co-operation in other fields, including culture, education, tourism, defence, and people-to-people exchanges, he said.

The State, Government and Vietnamese ministries and sectors will strive to create optimal conditions for the Ambassador to enjoy a successful working term in Vietnam, President Phuc said, while voicing his hope that with long-term experience in the diplomatic sector, the Ambassador will make practical contributions to bolstering bilateral ties moving forward.

In response, Ambassador Mehdizade affirmed his nation’s recognition of the great importance of relations with Vietnam, conveying the Azerbaijani President’s invitation to attend the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which will be held in early 2023 to senior Vietnamese leaders.

This is an important meeting for leaders as they seek to discuss issues related to NAM member countries and overcome the post-COVID-19 pandemic period.

The Ambassador said he would do his best to contribute to the further development of mutual relations, whilst also seeking to step up communication to boost the traditional close friendship between the two countries, especially among younger generations.

Congratulating Ambassador of Brunei to Vietnam Datin Paduka Malai Hajah Halimah Malai Haji Yussof on her appointment to the position, the Vietnamese President affirmed that both sides are two countries in the ASEAN region that enjoy a close-knit relationship.

He shared his positive impressions on meetings with the Sultan of Brunei, especially the visit to Vietnam by the Sultan of Brunei in March, 2019, that served to open a new chapter in bilateral relations when the two countries upgraded bilateral ties to a comprehensive partnership.

The Vietnamese President expressed his delight at the rapid development of economic co-operation, with trade turnover exceeding the target of US$500 million set for 2025.

President Phuc also asked the Ambassador to continue boosting economic and trade ties between the two countries, thereby facilitating the import of Vietnamese goods, especially rice and agricultural and aquatic products into the Brunei market. This will create favourable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises as they seek to co-operate alongside Bruneian enterprises moving forward.

The Bruneian Ambassador conveyed his respectful greetings to Brunei Darussalam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and expressed his delight at the deepening relations between, especially in the fields of agriculture, commerce, national defence, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Ambassador emphasised that the upgrading of the joint relationship to a comprehensive partnership during the Sultan's visit to Vietnam in March, 2019, represents a clear example of strengthening relations between the two countries.

He went on to express his thanks to the Vietnamese side for greatly supporting Brunei in the field of agriculture and fishery. In addition, the two countries always support each other at international and regional forums.

The Ambassador believes that the comprehensive partnership between the two countries will continue to grow stronger and affirmed that he would make every effort to propel bilateral relations forward in line with the aspirations of both nations’ leaders and people.
