A scientific seminar was held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 31 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s going abroad to seek the path for national salvation (June 5, 1911).

The seminar was attended by former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu; Prime Minsiter Nguyen Tan Dung; Dinh The Huynh, Head of the Party Central Committee Commission for Information and Education; Le Thanh Hai, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Tran Dai Quang, Deputy Minister of Public Security; revolutionary veterans; and researchers from scientific institutions and organizations from across the country.

The event was jointly held by the HCM City Party Committee, the Party Central Committee Commission for Information and Education, and the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration.

Addressing the event, Dinh The Huynh, who is also a Politburo member, emphasized the historical significance of President Ho Chi Minh’s journey to liberate the country for the Vietnamese revolution.

Mr. Huynh said the seminar affirmed the historical value of the journey and discussed lessons learnt for the future.

100 years ago, on June 5, 1911, a patriotic young man called Nguyen Tat Thanh (later President Ho Chi Minh) left Nha Rong harbour in Saigon on a quest to seek ways to save the nation.

Returning to Vietnam after 30 years of traveling to 30 countries on four continents, President Ho Chi Minh led the Vietnamese people and revolutionary movement to ultimate victory.

Speaking at the seminar, PM Nguyen Tan Dung stressed that the Vietnamese revolution, with its aim of achieving national independence and socialism, has overcome many challenges and difficulties to gain great historical victories.

In a report presented at the workshop, PM Dung highlighted some key points in the country’s socioeconomic development strategy for the 2011-2020 period, under the light of Ho Chi Minh’s thought. He also proposed primary objectives and measures to speed up the country’s process of industrialization and modernization.

The entire Party and people should make concerted efforts to curb inflation, stabilize the macroeconomy, maintain production, ensure social welfare, in order to carry out the 2011 socioeconomic development plan effectively.

135 reports at the workshop affirmed the historical significance of the Ho Chi Minh’s thought.
