President hails relationship with Tanzania

(VOV) -Vietnam and Tanzania have great potential for boosting bilateral cooperation across all fields including economics, trade, agriculture, and food security.

President Truong Tan Sang made the statement upon receiving Tanzanian Vice President Ali Mojamed Shein in Hanoi on November 23.

He noted the value he placed on Shein’s visit, saying it will begin a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries.

The State leader said he is pleased with the fruitful relations between Vietnam and Tanzania, particularly as annual two-way trade turnover grows beyond US$100 million.

He spoke highly of Tanzania’s increasing role in the East African region and in the United Nations’ framework of international organisations.

President Sang expressed gratitude for the support Tanzania lent to Vietnam’s candidacy for a non-permanent member position on the UN Security Council during the 2020-2021 term.

He highlighted the significance of the outcomes from Shein’s meeting with State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan.

President Sang proposed that the two sides review all signed agreements and negotiate new ones in order to create sound legal bases for the enhancement of bilateral cooperation.

Vietnam is ready to share its agricultural experience with Tanzania, contributing to the increasingly favorable conditions for the two countries’ business to explore and invest in each other’s markets, said President Sang.

Shein, who is also President of the Zanzibar Semi-Autonomous area of the United Republic of Tanzania, underlined the ties of friendship between the two countries, and reiterated the productive bilateral and multilateral cooperation mutually enjoyed.

Shein also briefly updated Sang on the political and socio-economic development of Tanzania, where the GDP growth rate is currently estimated at 2-3 percent.

Tanzania is aiming to reach a GDP growth rate of 8-10 percent in the very near future, he said.

Vice President Shein shared his admiration for Vietnam’s achievements, particularly in relation to poverty reduction.

He said that his country will support Vietnam’s bid to join UN bodies and soon recognise the country’s full market economy status.
