State President Nguyen Minh Triet praised history researchers and scientists for their contributions to the development of historical knowledge.

Mr Triet met with the delegation from the Vietnam History Science Association’s (VHSA) led by its chairman, professor Phan Huy Le, in Hanoi on December 14. He said that the historical research helps Vietnamese people deepen their knowledge of their own country so they can feel proud of the national history. Better historical understanding also allows them to overcome various difficulties as they contribute to the country’s development.

Vietnam has thousands of years of history and the VHSA is promoting the tradition of the nation. Historians’ contribution is invaluable and very important, Mr Triet said.

He urged the VHSA to continue researching the national heritage to learn more about the origins of Vietnam. The association should also promote history education at school so that next generations can better understand their nation’s past.

Professor Phan Huy Le said that the association has nearly 4,000 members who are all historians from across the country. Its mission is to popularize historic knowledge, educate the people on their national traditions, especially young people, and expand cooperation with international organisations and institutions that publish about Vietnam’s culture and history. The association has published many valuable books, researched the history of national protection and construction and developed knowledge on history for pupils.
