Investing in technology and telecommunications services is one of Vietnam’s priority areas in national development, said State President Nguyen Minh Triet while receiving Ericsson President and CEO Carl-Henric Svanberg in Hanoi on March 9.

He said that Ericsson has gone along with Vietnam during its development and integration process and actively contributed to the country’s telecommunications development.

He expressed his hopes that the group would boost cooperation with Vietnam and expand its services coverage, particularly to remote areas.

The expansion of services coverage will create more opportunities for people in rural and remote areas to improve their knowledge of production and business, said Mr Triet.

CEO Svanberg said that Ericsson has supplied equipment and services to companies involved in the mobile phone industry in Vietnam since it entered the Southeast Asian market 15 years ago. He voiced the group’s commitment to increasing long-term cooperation in Vietnam.

He revealed that the group has successfully begun the transfer of technology that will enable its Vietnamese partners to roll out 3G technology in the near future.
