Since its establishment, Ha Dong has always performed its role as the province’s capital city. From a small township with just two districts, Ha Dong now covers nearly 48 km2 with a total population of more than 228,000 living in 7 districts and 8 communes which are famous for traditional handicraft villages.

Over the past years, the city has maintained a high annual economic growth rate of 13 percent, and even hit 17 percent in 2006. It has transformed its economic restructuring towards the ever-increasing proportion of industry-trade-service.

Apart from boosting economic development, Ha Dong has paid due attention to developing cultural and social activities to improve local people’s spiritual life. Notably, the city has increased the operation efficiency of the local Party cell, the People’s Council, the People’s Committee and the Fatherland Front Committee and socio-political organisations.

On behalf of the Party and State, President Nguyen Minh Triet presented the Independence Order, Third Class to Ha Dong City’s Party Organisation and its people in recognition of the city’s good performance.
