PM supports stronger defense ties with Japan

The Vietnamese government pledges constant support for the cooperation in national defense between Vietnam and Japan.

This statement was made by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at a reception for Japanese Chief of Joint Staff of Defence Forces Gen. Shigeru Iwasaki during his working visit to Hanoi on May 29.

PM Dung hailed the results of talks between the Japanese delegation and  the Vietnam People’s Army, adding that the implementation of agreements reached at the talks will help promote multi-faceted Vietnam-Japan ties.

He stressed that Vietnam, as a strategic partner of Japan, will do its best to develop comprehensive cooperation in a more in-depth, practical and effective way.

Gen. Iwasaki expressed his wish that Vietnam will create favourable conditions for defensive relations, especially in the fields of humanitarian assistance, military medicine, anti-terrorism, search and rescue, and information technology.

He confirmed Japan’s support for the resolution of disputes over the East Sea through peaceful negotiations and based on international law.

The same day, Gen. Iwasaki met with the Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam’s People’s Army, Do Ba Ty.
