PM Pham Minh Chinh visits MISIS university in Moscow
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and held a working session at the National University of Science and Technology MISIS (NUST MISIS) in Moscow on March 25, local time, as part of his official visit to Russia.
After touring a superconducting quantum technology laboratory, PM Chinh met with the university’s leadership, staff and students. Chernikova Alevtina Anatolievna, Rector of NUST MISIS, briefed the Government leader and his delegation on the university’s traditions, achievements, development orientations, and results of research and training cooperation with Vietnam, as well as directions for future cooperation.
NUST MISIS is a long-established and among the most reputable higher education and research institutions in the Russian Federation and Europe, with strengths in materials science, metallurgy, high technology, engineering and innovation. The university is ranked among the top 400 globally in physics and the top 600 in engineering; it ranks first in Russia in materials science and third in mining. It is also an innovation centre linking training, scientific research and cooperation with businesses.
The university is also a symbol of strong cooperation between Vietnam and Russia in education. Thousands of Vietnamese students and officials have studied and are studying at the university. NUST MISIS has trained more than 1,000 engineers and specialists for Vietnam in mining, materials and metallurgy, many of whom have become leading professors and scientists in various fields.
During the visit, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and NUST MISIS signed a cooperation agreement on training high-quality human resources, expert exchanges and joint research in quantum technology.
Speaking to the university’s leadership and students, PM Chinh said he was pleased to visit NUST MISIS and congratulated the university on its achievements over more than 100 years. He stressed that Vietnam-Russia relations are built on a long-standing tradition, with 2025 marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties. With special, sincere and trusted relations between the two peoples, Russia has provided Vietnam with support and effective cooperation, including in education and training.
From the country’s difficult periods to its current stage of integration and development, many generations of Vietnamese students and researchers trained in science, engineering and medicine in Russia have returned to contribute to national development. Many have become leaders, scientists and leading experts in key sectors.
The Government chief appreciated the fine sentiment and effective cooperation that NUST MISIS has extended to Vietnam, particularly in training human resources, developing alumni networks, promoting research cooperation, transferring knowledge and strengthening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Russia. He expressed his hope that this cooperation will continue to be strengthened and become more effective in the future.
He said Vietnam is pursuing strategic goals of becoming a developing country with modern industry and upper-middle income by 2030, and a developed socialist country with high income by 2045.
To achieve these goals set out in the 13th National Party Congress Resolution, Vietnam is focusing on key tasks and measures to promote double-digit growth and ensure rapid and sustainable development.
Vietnam identifies people as the decisive factor, the centre, the subject, the goal, the resource and the driving force of development. It considers education and training, science and technology as top national policies, requiring adequate investment as an investment in sustainable development. Science, technology, innovation and digital transformation are increasingly becoming key foundations for improving labour productivity, competitiveness and sustainable growth.
Vietnam has issued specialised resolutions in key areas, notably Politburo Resolution No. 57 on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation.
During this visit, the two sides agreed to review and elevate Vietnam-Russia relations across all areas, and to make science and technology cooperation a new pillar, while further bolstering cooperation in education, training and culture.
PM Chinh expressed confidence that, with its long-standing tradition, academic reputation, strong research capacity and spirit of innovation, NUST MISIS will continue to contribute to Russia’s development in education, science and technology, including in emerging sectors, and continue to be an important partner of Vietnam in human resource training, science and technology development and innovation.
He called for further expansion of cooperation in training high-quality human resources in areas of strength of MISIS that meet Vietnam’s needs, and for stronger cooperation in scientific research and technology transfer.
The Government leader also asked the university to continue supporting Vietnamese students and researchers studying at MISIS, encouraging and creating favourable conditions for them to study and conduct research well, while serving as ambassadors of friendship contributing to stronger understanding, trust and ties between the two countries’ people.
He expressed his hope that Vietnamese students and researchers at the university will continue making every effort, overcoming difficulties and their own limits, studying and training well, nurturing aspirations to contribute, and growing with the spirit of valuing time, respecting knowledge and making timely decisions, thereby contributing to national development and Vietnam-Russia friendship.
