A high-ranking Vietnamese Government delegation led by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung left Hanoi on January 25 for the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, from January 25-31 at the invitation of WEF Chairman, Klaus Schwab.

PM Dung will take advantage of opportunity to pay working visits to the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva.

The delegation includes Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang, Ambassador and Head of the Vietnamese delegation in Geneva Vu Dung, Deputy Director of the Government Office Pham Van Phuong, Deputy Foreign Minister Doan Xuan Hung and Assistant to the Prime Minister Nguyen Van Tung.

PM Dung’s participation at the Davos forum and his working visits to the UN and the WTO will allow him to talk with leaders from other countries about economics, politics, the global science and technology and the environment.

The Vietnamese Government leader will also compare notes with business leaders on ways to improve Vietnam’s relations with the UN and the WTO.

2010 will mark the 40th anniversary of the annual WEF in Davos - one of this year’s biggest events.

This is a chance to polish the image of a dynamic Vietnam which is actively participating in international economic and political institutions and is a responsible member of the international community.

Vietnam is expected to take centre stage at the WEF as it will host the World Economic Forum on East Asia in Vietnam this year.
