PM meets with Indian and Singaporean counterparts, UN Secretary General

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 7 had a host of meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Jakarta, Indonesia.

At the meeting with the Indian Prime Minister, the Vietnamese Government leader conveyed the greetings of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong and Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue to PM Modi.

He congratulated India on successfully launching the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft to the Moon and the Aditya-L1 Solar Probe, as well as recent economic and military, and science and technology achievements and successful hosting of the G20 and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The two PMs reaffirmed the traditional partnership, close friendship between the two countries, shared similar strategic interests and hailed the positive developments, which are increasingly moving towards the effective relations between Vietnam and India.

They agreed that, on the basis of long-standing traditional relations and high political trust, the two countries should strengthen delegation exchanges and high-level contacts, and assigned the two foreign ministries to actively coordinate and arrange high-level visits in the near future.

This is addition to stepping up cooperation across a variety of fields, especially new ones such as digital transformation, energy transformation, and green and sustainable economic development, thus bringing mutual benefits to the two peoples.

Both leaders consented to step up security and defence cooperation, a pillar in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

In the context of the global economy still facing difficulties and supply chain disruptions, the two leaders concurred to assign ministries, and localities to boost closer cooperation to supplement the strengths of each economy in order to iron out snags for businesses, while not applying trade barriers and trade defence measures to each other's products, striving to bring two-way trade turnover between the two countries to US$ 20 billion in the time ahead.

They agreed to assign the two countries' aviation agencies to research and license each other's airlines to increase the frequency of operating direct flights between each other's major cities, to meet people's travel needs.

PM Narendra Modi acknowledged Chinh's proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on e-commerce and a bilateral economic cooperation agreement, and limit the application of trade barriers to each other's products. He also affirmed his nation's readiness to encourage major groups to increase investment in Vietnam.

The two leaders agreed to continue to coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums.

At the meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the Vietnamese Government chief and the leaders compared notes on the world situation, major trends in peace, cooperation and development, and recent developments in the region.

The three leaders shared their assessment that the world economy is facing plenty of difficulties, strategic competition among big countries is complicated and regional hot spots, and issues relating to ethnics, religion, and populism are posing many challenges to maintaining peace, stability and development.

PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam will continue to boost multilateral cooperation and international solidarity with other countries, thereby contributing to dealing with peace, security and development issues in the region and the world.
