PM meets Vietnamese expatriates in Hong Kong, Macau

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has stressed that the Party and State always consider the overseas Vietnamese (OV) community, including those in Hong Kong and Macau of China, an indispensable part of the nation and an important resource for the homeland’s development.

Meeting with representatives from the Vietnamese communities in the two regions on September 15 in Hong Kong as part of his official visit to China, the PM said the Party and State will create favourable conditions for OVs to have a stable life in their host countries while maintaining the nation’s cultural identities.

OVs in Hong Kong and Macau expressed their belief in the Party and State’s policies, especially the Government’s solutions to socio-economic development, saying that the country will reap more comprehensive and sustainable achievements in the time ahead.

They also reported their positive economic development outcomes over the past time, hoping that the Government will continue to boost multifaceted cooperation with Hong Kong and Macau, thus providing them with more opportunities to look toward the homeland.

The PM called on the expatriates to continue maintaining unity, contributing to the homelands’ development, and serving as a bridge connecting the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Hong Kong and Macau.

When meeting with staff of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau, the Government leader praised their efforts in external affairs as well as in protecting legitimate rights and interests of OVs living and working there.

Earlier the same day, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended a ceremony to launch the Ho Chi Minh City-Hong Kong air route of the low-cost carrier Vietjet , which is hoped to help connect the two economic, cultural and financial centres, and promote tourism and economic integration in the region.

He also had a working breakfast with several financial investors and fund managers of Hong Kong, and received Chairman of the insurance group FWD Ronald Arculli.
