Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received visiting Argentinean Foreign Minister Hector Timerman and Mayor of New York city Michael Bloomberg in Hanoi on March 23.

During the meeting with the Argentinean official, the PM said that he highly valued the outcomes of the talks between the two foreign ministers of Vietnam and Argentina and that the visit by FM Hector Timerman will make a contribution to the two countries’ cooperation in various fields.

He affirmed Vietnam’s wish to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Argentina, saying that the two countries need to better cooperate at multilateral forums and boost two-way trade to surpass the current level of US$1 billion.

PM Dung agreed with the FM’s proposals for increasing bilateral cooperation in protecting the environment and coping with climate change and rising sea levels.

He also said that climate change is a global issue and that developed countries need to have a bigger responsibility and work more closely with developing nations to effectively handle it.

**  In another meeting with Mayor of New York city Michael Bloomberg in Hanoi the same day, PM Dung said there have been remarkable developments in Vietnam-US relations recently, especially in trade, investment, education and training, culture, and in addressing climate change.

Two-way trade turnover has increased steadily, reaching US$21 billion in 2011, while the US ranks sixth among foreign investors in Vietnam.

Mr Dung also thanked Bloomberg for his charitable programs and a program providing helmets for Vietnamese children, saying he hopes that Bloomberg’s visit will contribute to strengthening Vietnam-US cooperation.

The PM spoke highly of Bloomberg news for its objective stories on Vietnam’s economy, thus helping the world better understand the country’s development.

He expressed his hope that the US government and New York authorities will continue creating favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community in the US to stabilize their lives.

For his part, Bloomberg pledged to make more contributions to promoting cooperation between New York and localities in Vietnam./.
