PM Dung made the statement while inspecting the implementation of shipbuilding projects at the Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company and the Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Industry Company in the northern port city of Hai Phong on May 20.
He praised the corporation’s rapid growth that has increased eightfold in the past five years, thus generating jobs for nearly 7,000 workers with an average income of more than VND3 million/month per capita. In particular, the corporation has developed a horde of skilled workers with more than 1,000 workers receiving international certificates and over 500 engineers trained abroad. Its orders up to 2010 are valued at US$2 billion, including contracts to build a 56,000-ton vessel and a 150,000-ton oil tanker.
The shipbuilding industry has recorded remarkable development and has increased its competitiveness, affirming its direction in this field.
Earlier, the PM visited Hai Phong equipment and shipbuilding factory under the Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation (Lilama). He stressed that Lilama must become a leading mechanic group to serve the national industrialization and modernization process.
