PetroVietnam should establish operation procedures, prepare human resources and solve technical errors together with contractors before taking over the Dung Quat Oil Refinery.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement while leading a government mission on an inspection of the Dung Quat Oil refinery in central Quang Ngai province on September 20.

At a working session with leaders from the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), Truong Van Tuyen, deputy general director of the group said that the construction of the Dung Quat oil refinery has been completed and investors are putting the factory on a trial run. On August 15, 2009, almost all major workstations operated safely and stably. However, on August 18, the factory stopped operating due to technical problem with the valve equipment.

Right after that, investors joined efforts with contractors to repair and reassemble the equipment. The factory is expected to be put into operation on September 30.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that the factory is one of the major national projects, which drew special attention from the Party, Government and people. Mr Dung highlighted efforts made by investors and contractors in solving the problem.

He also asked the contractor units to speed up the construction of the Polypropylene factory, which is scheduled for completion in January 2010 and handed over in February 2010.
