PM Hung holds breakfast meeting with Cambodian and Lao counterparts
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Le Minh Hung held a breakfast meeting with his Cambodian and Lao counterparts, Hun Manet and Sonexay Siphandone, on May 8 while attending the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, the Philippines.
During the friendly meeting, the Vietnamese Government leader affirmed that Vietnam always values its traditional solidarity and close-knit ties with Cambodia and Laos. He said that in his new position, he would continue nurturing relations among the three countries and work closely with the Cambodian and Lao PMs to turn the three countries’ “traditional solidarity” into a “driver for development” and geographical proximity into “an advantage for strategic connectivity”, helping the three countries develop rapidly and sustainably together.
Congratulating Hung on assuming his new position, the Cambodian and Lao PMs thanked Vietnam for its support and effective cooperation in many areas in recent years. They affirmed that they would maintain close and regular coordination with Hung to further boost relations among the three countries in a more substantive and effective direction in the coming period.
The three PMs expressed satisfaction with the continued strengthening of trilateral relations in recent years. High-level exchanges between Vietnam and Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, as well as the meeting among the leaders of the three Parties on February 6, 2026, have created fresh impetus and outlined direction for comprehensive cooperation among the three countries.
The three countries have continued close coordination in border management and protection, combating transnational crime and high-tech crime, while trade and investment cooperation has remained stable. Several projects by Vietnamese enterprises in Cambodia and Laos are also being implemented effectively.
Amid global developments negatively affecting economies in the region, the three PMs consented to strengthen bilateral and trilateral cooperation.
They also agreed to deepen defence and security cooperation, step up information sharing, and support one another in combating crimes, including online fraud. The three leaders agreed to create breakthroughs in economic connectivity, supply chains and transport links, expand direct flights between major cities, strengthen energy, logistics and cross-border trade connectivity, and accelerate the concrete implementation of strategic infrastructure development projects.
The three countries also concurred to continue simplifying entry and exit procedures and diversify tourism products.
Reaffirming their commitment to stepping up communications on cooperation achievements and the solidarity and friendship among the three countries and peoples, the leaders also agreed to coordinate closely in organising celebrations marking the 65th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties and the 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic ties in 2027.
They will also continue coordinating and backing one another at regional and international forums, particularly within ASEAN and Mekong sub-regional cooperation mechanisms.
PMs also exchanged views on regional and international issues of shared concern. They underscored the importance of maintaining solidarity and close cooperation among the three countries, while stepping up cooperation with other ASEAN member states amid increasingly complex global and regional developments.
They reaffirmed their determination and commitment to continue giving priority to promoting trilateral relations for the benefit of the people of the three countries, and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.
