Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will lead a Vietnamese delegation to take part in the 12th summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Cebu, the Philippines from January 12-15, said Foreign Ministry (FM) spokesperson Le Dung at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on January 11.

PM Dung will also attend some related meetings in Cebu, including the ASEAN+3 Summit (with China, Japan and the Republic of Korea), the ASEAN+1 summits (with China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and India), and the second East Asia Summit.

 

The FM spokesperson also said that the 12th ASEAN Summit under the theme “Towards a Caring and Sharing Community” will focus on cooperation among ASEAN members and external relations between ASEAN members and other countries. Related meetings will discuss regional and international situations, work out measures to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN members and other countries and to boost cooperation in the region such as ASEAN + 3 and East Asian community.

 

On this occasion, PM Dung will also participate in the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Summit and the Summit of the four countries with Thailand. He will held bilateral meetings with leaders of several countries inside and outside ASEAN.

 

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese PM will attend the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland from January 24-28, 2007.
