PM Dung receives Indian Minister

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has received Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry and Textiles Anand Sharman who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

At the reception in Hanoi on March 8, PM Dung said the Vietnam-India relations of friendship and strategic partnership have expanded in different fields and Minister Sharman’s visit will make practical contributions to strengthening bilateral ties in the future.

The two countries' cooperation in economics, trade and investment is in full swing with two-way trade turnover reaching nearly US$4 billion in 2001 and is likely to rise to US$7 billion in the following years.

PM Dung wished that India would increase its investment in Vietnam and create favourable conditions for Vietnamese goods to penetrate the Indian market.

On the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-India diplomatic ties and the fifth anniversary of Vietnam-India strategic partnership, Minister Sharman proposed establishing a committee to deal with issues arising in the fields of energy, information and technology and pharmaceuticals.

Mr Sharman believed that Vietnam and India will cooperate well in economics, trade and investment to raise their two-way trade turnover to US$7 billion in the next few years as expected by leaders of the two countries.
