On May 16, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with voters in Thuy Nguyen district, in the northern port city of Hai Phong, ahead of the National Assembly’s third session, scheduled to open on May 21.

At the meeting, voters expressed their delight at recent comprehensive results obtained from national construction and socio-economic development, saying that the outcomes are an important encouragement for the country to firmly advance on the road of modernisation and integration, despite difficulties arising from the global economic crisis.

They proposed the NA increase supervision of Party and State policy implementation at grassroots levels, particularly regarding environmental protection.

The NA should ensure social welfare, devise plans to develop a unified infrastructure system and rural areas, and oversee the execution of the Land Law, they said.

Regarding rural development, voters said the Government needs to pay more attention to rural transport systems, schools, water supply, irrigation stations, medical centres, education, and vocational training and job generation for local people.

They asked the Government to assist fishermen, adopt appropriate mechanisms and policies and solve shortcomings relating to land policy, especially when the Government revokes land rights for site clearance.
On the country’s socio-economic development, PM Dung affirmed that the Government is determined to meet all socio-economic targets for this year.

At the meeting, the PM clarified issues of voter concern, such as economic restructuring, social welfare, heath care, education, poverty reduction, administrative procedure reform, settlement of complaints and denunciations, and the implementation of the Land Law.
