A Vietnamese Government delegation led by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived at Andrew Air Force Base in Washington DC on April 11 (local time) to attend the Nuclear Security Summit.

On the way, he stopped over in Seattle city and visited Boeing factory there.

The summit, initiated by President Barack Obama, will bring together heads of State and Prime Ministers of more than 40 countries, including Russia, China, the UK, France, Germany, and India, and leaders of many international organisations. High on the agenda will be specific measures to increase cooperation and ensure nuclear security.

The three-day event, which is due to begin on April 12, is expected to adopt a statement to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Mr Dung’s attendance demonstrates Vietnam’s policy of supporting all countries’ rights to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, and international community’s efforts toward disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. It will also help strengthen relations between Vietnam and the US and between ASEAN and the US.
