Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived in Toronto, Canada, on Tuesday evening (local time) to attend G20 summit at the invitation of Canadian PM Stephan Harper.
This is the first time Vietnam has taken part in a big international forum bringing together heads of States of major 20 economic powers to discuss global issues.
Representing Vietnam and ASEAN, PM Dung will join 20 other leaders to seek ways to get the global economy back on track and promote global governance. He will reaffirm ASEAN’s role in cushioning the impact of the economic crisis and sustaining steady growth.
The PM will also introduce Vietnam’s achievements, especially its success in weathering the recent economic turmoil, and strengthen relations between Vietnam and G20 members, particularly its priority partners.
Mr Dung is scheduled to meet with the Indonesian President, the Netherlands Prime Minister, heads of delegations, and representatives of leading groups before attending the first session on June 26.
