Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived in Mandalay on December 19 to begin his official visit to Myanmar, where he will attend the fourth Greater Mekong Sub-region Summit.

Welcoming the PM at the airport, Mandalay Region Chief Minister, U Ye Myint, said he believes the visit will strengthen traditional relations between the two countries and deepen bilateral cooperation.

He said the Mandalay region is willing to create the most favourable conditions for Vietnamese and Myanmar businesses to seek cooperation in agriculture, mining, industry, and tourism.

PM Dung expressed his pleasure at visiting Myanmar’s cultural and tourism centre for the first time, saying that Vietnam always respects the traditional relationship with Myanmar. He also thanked the Myanmar government and people for their assistance to Vietnam during its past struggle for national independence and its current process of national development.

He highly valued the positive bilateral cooperation between the two countries, saying it not only benefits Vietnamese businesses, but also contribute to Myanmar’s development.

In the evening, Myanmar President Thein Sein held a banquet in honour of PM Dung and his entourage.
