PM Chinh inspects key transport projects in central Vietnam
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on March 1 inspected several key transport projects during his working visit to central provinces.
The projects include the Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon expressway section passing through Duc Pho and Binh De tunnels; the Hoai Nhon-Quy Nhon expressway; and the second runway and associated facilities project at Phu Cat Airport.
While inspecting the Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon expressway section, the PM visited and presented gifts to engineers and workers at the construction site.
He expressed appreciation and highly valued their efforts in remaining on site throughout the Lunar New Year holiday, setting aside family matters to accelerate progress and complete the project at an early date.
The Government chief directed that once the expressway becomes operational, Quang Ngai and Gia Lai provinces must plan new development zones along the route, restructure crops, livestock, production and business activities, and restructure industrial parks and economic zones to fully tap the benefits generated by the project.
He asked provincial leaders to support residents in resettlement areas, ensuring that those relocated under the project have better living conditions in their new homes. He also called for implementation of the North-South high-speed railway project, beginning with site clearance in affected areas.
On this occasion, the Government leader asked relevant agencies and units to coordinate closely with investors and contractors to promptly finalize acceptance procedures and put project components into operation as soon as possible, thereby bringing benefits to localities and residents.
PM Chinh also inspected the Hoai Nhon-Quy Nhon expressway project, which has a total length of 70 km and runs through Gia Lai province, with total investment of more than VND12 trillion.
Construction volume has reached approximately 99.9%. The entire 70-km main route has been completed and acceptance procedures finalized, meeting conditions for operation and exploitation.
The traffic monitoring and control system and construction works have reached 32 out of VND62 billion in contract value, equivalent to 51, while equipment installation has begun and is expected to be completed in April 2026.
A rest area on the route is scheduled for completion and operation in July 2026, and a temporary rest stop with essential facilities is being arranged to serve operations.
At the construction site of the second runway and associated facilities project at Phu Cat Airport in Gia Lai province, PM Chinh applauded engineers and workers for their dedication, working regardless of weather conditions and “eating in haste and sleeping quickly” to maintain progress.
He stressed that alongside accelerating progress, strict attention must be paid to construction quality. Relevant agencies and units were asked to strengthen inspection and supervision to prevent corruption, waste and negative practices.
After on-site inspection and hearing reports, the PM urged the relevant agencies, units, investors and contractors to shorten the schedule by three months, ensuring the project is put into operation at the beginning of the third quarter of 2026 instead of September 2026 as planned.
He also called for optimization of operational efficiency once the project becomes operational and assigned Gia Lai province to directly manage and operate Phu Cat Airport under the principle that “whoever performs best will be entrusted with the task.”
