PM Chinh departs Hanoi for expanded BRICS Summit and bilateral meetings in Brazil
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, accompanied by his spouse Le Thi Bich Tran and a high-level Vietnamese delegation, left Hanoi on the afternoon of July 4 for the 2025 expanded BRICS Summit and bilateral activities in Brazil, taking place from July 4 to 8, at the invitation of Brazilian President Lula da Silva.

This marks Vietnam’s first participation as a Partner Country at a BRICS Summit, an increasingly influential multilateral cooperation mechanism among emerging economies with rising political and economic influence.
Vietnam’s status as a BRICS Partner and its presence at this summit highlight the country’s proactive role in multilateral forums and its commitment to elevating the voice of developing countries, reinforcing international solidarity, and promoting inclusive multilateralism based on respect for international law. The visit is also expected to strengthen ties between Vietnam and BRICS member countries.
On the bilateral front, the trip builds on the momentum of recent high-level exchanges, including Prime Minister Chinh’s attendance at the G20 Summit in November 2024 and the state visit to Vietnam by President Lula da Silva in March 2025.
This is also Prime Minister Chinh’s third consecutive annual visit to Brazil in his capacity as head of government. He will take part in a range of bilateral meetings aimed at bolstering all-around cooperation with Brazil, Vietnam’s most important strategic partner and largest trading partner in Latin America.
The visit provides an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss major directions for boosting cooperation in trade, investment, and agriculture, there by contributing to the diversification of markets, products, and supply chains amid global trade complexities.
Amid major shifts in the global and regional landscape, the PM’s trip, with its wide-ranging bilateral and multilateral activities, continues to concretize the key goals and tasks set out in the Politburo’s Resolution No. 59 on international integration in the new context. It also serves as a concrete step in carrying out Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification, being a friend, a reliable partner, and a responsible member of the international community.
