The Prime Minister has asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment to prepare a summit agenda while the Ministry of Trade will coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Foreign Ministry to learn about ACMECS countries’ viewpoints.

The Government Office has issued the Prime Minister’ document No 887 asking the Foreign Ministry to work with relevant ministries and sectors to draw up a plan for organisation of the third Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Co-operation Strategy (ACMECS) summit, a summit of Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam (CLMV) in order to submit it to the Prime Minister for approval in late May.


Under the plan, the Ministry of Planning will carry out research and propose summit contents while the Ministry of Trade will coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Foreign Ministry to learn about ACMECS countries’ points of view to put forward Cambodia’s initiatives of establishing an ACMECS rice exporters’ association. The Ministry of Finance will coordinate with the Foreign Ministry and relevant ministries and sectors to make specific proposals for establishing a development fund among CLMV.

 

In terms of cooperation between Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam (CLV) with Japan, the Prime Minister has requested the Foreign Ministry to join hands with relevant ministries and sectors to arrange for the second meeting at expert level between CLV and Japan to be held in Cambodia and to propose Vietnam’s participation in the ministerial meeting between Japan and five countries in the sub-Mekong region.


In terms of the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MGC), the Foreign Ministry will coordinate with relevant ministries and sectors to get ready for their participation in the fifth MGC ministerial meeting in India.


In addition, the Foreign Ministry will discuss preparatory work with the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Planning and Investment to organise the second IAI (Initiative for ASEAN Integration) Development Cooperation Forum. The Ministry of Planning and Investment will work with relevant ministries and sectors to organise an CLMV Investment Promotion Conference in Vietnam at an appropriate time.
