Party’s leadership - decisive factor in Great 1975 Spring Victory
The historical significance of the Great 1975 Spring Victory leading to the liberation of Vietnam’s southern region and national reunification was spotlighted at a scientific seminar in Hanoi on March 18.

The seminar was one of activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025).
The event was jointly organised by the Su That (Truth) National Political Publishing House, the Political Academy under the Ministry of National Defence, and the Vietnam Coast Guard.
Addressing the seminar, Major General, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Sy Loc, Director of the Political Academy, attributed the victory to the clear-sighted and strategic leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and the overall strength of the people’s war.
That victory has been recorded as one of the most brilliant chapters in the nation’s history, symbolising the triumph of revolutionary heroism, the unwavering spirit “nothing is more precious than independence and freedom,” and the courage and wisdom of the Vietnamese people, he said.
Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Trong Lam, Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Su That National Political Publishing House, stressed that the victory symbolised the faith, will, and aspiration for independence, freedom, and national reunification, marked the glorious end of a challenging historical period and ushered in a new era for Vietnam - the era of independence, freedom, and the whole nation advancing to socialism.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Minh Tuyet from the Academy of Journalism and Communication, the aspiration for national reunification of President Ho Chi Minh - the great leader of Vietnam, became the aspiration and will of the entire Party, army and nation.
In Ho Chi Minh’s thought, national independence is a sacred and inviolable right, but true independence must be inseparably linked to reunification and territorial integrity, so for the late leader, the determination to defend national independence always went hand in hand with the struggle for national reunification, she said.
Delegates focused discussions on further clarifying the significance of political and spiritual strength and analysing the significance and role of the Great 1975 Spring Victory for Vietnam, as well as perspectives about the event which held international and historical importance.
They highlighted the contributions of various forces, the Party, the Government, and the people of both the northern and the southern regions during the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising, while analysing key leadership perspectives, strategic decisions, and pivotal battles during the event.
The delegates also evaluated lessons, and theoretical and practical values to promote political and spiritual factors in the cause of national construction and protection, and building the army and the people-based defence position in the new era of the nation.
