The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Politburo has asked the army to strengthen the army’s combat capacity as a key force in national defence.

The Party elite told the Central Military Party Committee of the assignment during a working session chaired by Party General Nong Duc Manh on August 26 to discuss army preparations for its Party Congress for the 2010-15 term.

Party organisations in the army should continue renovating in a comprehensive way, focusing on strengthening their leadership capacity and combat power, said the Party Politburo.

“Military Party units should strengthen their national defence capacity to foil all sabotage attempts by hostile forces, win in all cases and play a key role in safeguarding the territorial integrity, thus contributing to political and social stability and peace as well as firmly defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam,” said Politburo members.

They praised the Central Military Party Committee for constantly increasing the national defence power while fulfilling economic assignments, thus contributing to the nation’s socio-economic development.

The Party Politburo also lauded the military Party Committee’s achievements as a key force in overcoming natural disasters, especially in search and rescue work, and working closely with relevant agencies in providing timely consultancy for the Party and State on issues of military and national defence.
