Ha Thi Khiet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC), visited the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in Hanoi on April 27 to celebrate the 2553rd birthday of Buddha.

Ms Khiet, who is also Head of the Party Commission for Mass Mobilisation, praised the great contributions made by Buddhist dignitaries and followers to the past struggle for national liberation and the current process of national construction and development.

The Party and State will create the best possible conditions for Buddhists to practise their religion and live along with the nation, said Ms Khiet.

Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Vice President of the VBS Executive Council, thanked the Party and State for supporting the VBS in hosting the 5th United Nations Day of Vesak last year, which was acknowledged internationally.

He added that the upgrade and construction of new pagodas such as Bai Dinh and Yen Tu also testifies to the Party and State’s respect and care for Buddhism.

This year, Buddha’s birthday celebrations will take place from the 8th to the 15th day of the fourth lunar month.
