The visit was made at the invitation of Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of China.
In 2008, Vietnam and China agreed to establish the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, laying a firm foundation for increasing bilateral cooperation in various areas.
Currently, China is a leading trade partner of Vietnam. In 2010, two-way trade between the two countries reached more than US$27 billion, making up 17.4 percent of Vietnam’s import-export value. In the first half of 2011 alone, the trade value hit nearly US$16 billion.
