Mr Trong was welcomed by Wang Jiashui, Head of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's International Liaison Department, and Kong Xuanyou, Chinese ambassador to Vietnam.

He was also welcomed by Nguyen Van Tho, Vietnamese ambassador to China, and representatives of Vietnamese organisations and community in China.

The welcome ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing in the afternoon. Shortly after that, Party General Secretaries Nguyen Phu Trong and Hu Jintao will hold high-level talks and sign a number of important documents.

Mr Trong began a four-day visit to China on October 11 at the invitation of Party General Secretary and President of China Hu Jintao.
